About the artwork:
"Ad Meliora," meaning towards better things, is a Latin phrase that emphasizes the way of moving forward, aiming for greater things, despite challenges. As people grow, they begin to understand how life carries out its duties – being beset by trials, problems, and failures in the process of pursuing certain dreams and goals. The nature of life’s own difficulties became the main inspiration for this piece, focusing on human experience itself.
The ambiguous-like background, coloured in pink tone, acts as the vastness of human living, embodying countless and beautiful possibilities that could happen in one’s life. And within life itself, our journey could come across hurdles – leading to a state of despair – making it seem like there isn’t light at the end of it.
Towards better things is my way of pointing out that the complexity of the mind, combined with life difficulties, could shape how it builds resilience. As change requires strength, faith is what gives the will to even stand – and keep going.
